Prince Harry has made an unannounced visit to Kyiv, pledging to support thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians injured in the ongoing war with Russia. The Duke of Sussex, accompanied by his Invictus Games Foundation team, said his mission was to help strengthen rehabilitation efforts across the country.
Speaking on his arrival, Harry said: “We cannot stop the war, but what we can do is everything possible to help the recovery process. We must continue to humanise the people affected and keep their struggles at the forefront of people’s minds.”
The visit comes as Ukraine estimates more than 130,000 people have been left with permanent disabilities since the war began. Rehabilitation through sport has become a central government policy, and the Invictus Games Foundation is set to launch new initiatives to provide support, equipment, and opportunities for recovery.
During his trip, the Prince will meet over 200 veterans, visit the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, and hold talks with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. He is also expected to witness firsthand the destruction caused by the war. Ukrainian officials said the partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation has already helped integrate sports into veterans’ healthcare, with more than 22,000 former soldiers accessing rehabilitation programs this year.
