The Veritas Et Ius Association has unveiled a report highlighting substantial payments made to members of three codification commissions under Poland’s Ministry of Justice. Between 2024 and the end of June 2026, these commissions collectively disbursed nearly PLN 4.8 million to their members, according to the report.
Krystian Markiewicz, one of the commission members, was among the top earners, receiving PLN 240,000 during this period. Despite being removed from his role as chairman of the Codification Commission on the Judiciary and the Public Prosecution Service, Markiewicz continues to participate as a member of the commission.
The report further details that the judiciary commission alone has incurred costs exceeding PLN 1.54 million, attributed to its 36 meetings. However, the document does not provide specifics on attendance or the level of individual participation by commission members during these sessions.
This financial scrutiny sheds light on the significant expenses borne by taxpayers to support the activities of these commissions. The report’s findings raise questions about the transparency and accountability of the spending associated with these judicial bodies.
