Hubert Hurkacz of Poland has advanced to his first ATP Tour final of the season after a hard-fought victory over Canada’s Denis Shapovalov at the Chengdu Open semifinals. Hurkacz overcame a setback in the initial set, losing in a tiebreak, before rallying to win 6-7(8-10), 6-3, 6-3 on Monday.
The 29-year-old Polish tennis player will now face Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final. Davidovich Fokina secured his spot by defeating Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the other semifinal match.
Hurkacz, a former world No. 9, is looking to capture his first ATP title since returning from a long-term injury layoff in January 2026, which significantly affected his season and world ranking. This upcoming final will be the 13th ATP Tour final of his career and his first since competing in Geneva in May 2025.
In previous encounters, Hurkacz trails Davidovich Fokina 2-4, adding an element of challenge to the final match. Hurkacz aims to secure a victory against the Spaniard and claim his first ATP title since his comeback.
