British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s unwavering support for Ukraine during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Downing Street. In the face of growing international uncertainty over the ongoing conflict, Burnham assured Zelensky that Britain’s commitment to aiding Ukraine would remain steadfast.
During the discussions, Burnham confirmed that the UK would expedite the delivery of air defense missiles to Ukraine, a move intended to help counter intensified Russian attacks. The support package includes lightweight multi-role missiles that have already proven effective against Russian jet-powered drones, bolstering Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
Zelensky expressed gratitude for the UK’s continued support, acknowledging the British people as some of Ukraine’s strongest allies. The meeting comes amid strained relations between Ukraine and the United States, following shifts in Washington’s approach to Russia and concerns over intelligence sharing.
Burnham emphasized that the UK would persist in applying pressure on Moscow while exploring additional avenues to support Kyiv. He reiterated his willingness to engage in diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict, although he stressed that ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure remained a significant concern.
