Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that authorities have successfully thwarted a Russian-backed assassination plot targeting a Ukrainian-American in Warsaw. Tusk emphasized the unprecedented nature of the case, marking it as the first known attempt by a Russian-linked actor to attack a U.S. citizen on the soil of another NATO member. The intended target was identified as a U.S. citizen of Ukrainian descent, perceived by the Russian government as a threat.
An individual suspected of being recruited by Russian intelligence was apprehended in Poland on August 7. This suspect is currently detained for a three-month period. The operation was a collaborative effort with U.S. intelligence services, as noted by Poland’s minister responsible for overseeing intelligence agencies.
