India is taking proactive steps to enhance its involvement in resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, according to External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. This move comes as New Delhi seeks to bolster its diplomatic engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv, emphasizing dialogue as a path to peace.
Jaishankar highlighted that India has transitioned from merely advocating for negotiations to actively participating in discussions with both parties involved in the conflict. The minister’s comments underscore India’s commitment to exploring diplomatic avenues to facilitate a resolution.
In addition to its diplomatic efforts, India is examining potential contributions to initiatives concerning the safety of shipping in the Black Sea, as well as the export of grain and energy. These efforts aim to mitigate further attacks and ensure stability in these critical areas, Jaishankar noted.
India’s diplomatic engagement includes direct discussions with Ukrainian representatives, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains a close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Modi and Putin met in New Delhi in September, reflecting India’s balanced approach in maintaining dialogue with both nations.
The developments in India’s diplomatic strategy arise amidst ongoing efforts to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, with Kyiv also considering the possibility of resuming talks. The situation remains fluid, with international focus on finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
