Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine is anticipating a new tranche of financial support from the European Union in the coming days. This financial aid is expected to help Kyiv address its pressing budget and defense requirements. Last week, Ukraine received €3.3 billion from the EU for weapons, and the additional budget assistance is eagerly awaited.
Zelensky’s statement followed discussions with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Their talks included financial support for Ukraine’s energy sector and efforts to safeguard critical infrastructure. The discussions also touched on the aid available for Ukrainian exporters and domestic producers, including farmers.
In terms of defense, Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine has finalized its long-term priorities for October. These include ongoing long-range military operations and planning for additional F-16 aircraft supplies by the end of the year. Furthermore, Ukraine has also selected initial prototypes for an interceptor system aimed at countering faster, jet-powered Shahed drones; production targets, funding, and timelines for this system are currently being developed.
