A Russian drone attack near the Poland-Ukraine border caused a powerful explosion and led to heightened security measures, according to Polish officials. The explosion occurred approximately four kilometers from Poland’s border, near the town of Dorohusk, during an ongoing Russian assault on western Ukraine.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that a Russian jet-powered drone either crashed or hit a target close to the border. In response, Polish fighter jets were deployed to address the potential threat. The incident prompted authorities to issue alerts warning residents in parts of eastern Poland about the possibility of an air attack.
Following the explosion, operations at airports in the cities of Lublin and Rzeszow were temporarily halted as a precaution. However, Polish officials confirmed that the country’s airspace was not breached during the attack. Ukrainian border officials also refuted claims that a Russian drone had struck a border crossing with Poland.
This incident comes amid a series of Russian attacks targeting areas in western Ukraine, close to the Polish border. Polish authorities have previously scrambled aircraft in response to such strikes, indicating the growing frequency of these incidents as the conflict in Ukraine persists.
