Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has highlighted potential challenges in maintaining the country’s drone supplies over the winter, citing a significant budget deficit. Ukraine faces a shortfall of approximately $27 billion, with defense spending, including the production of drones and missiles, accounting for a substantial portion of this gap.
Zelensky emphasized that around one-third of the deficit could be required to meet the drone needs for the first quarter of the coming year. He warned that any delays in ordering and financing drones during October and November could lead to supply issues in January and February.
In response to these challenges, Ukraine has been in discussions with the European Union, the International Monetary Fund, businesses, and other financial institutions to secure necessary funding. Zelensky noted that international partners understand the urgency of addressing the funding gap and are supportive of Ukraine’s efforts to boost domestic production of drones and missiles.
Beyond financial assistance, Ukraine is seeking to expand drone cooperation through agreements with international partners. This initiative focuses on sharing Ukraine’s expertise in unmanned systems and enhancing joint production and technological collaboration.
