Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to the United States for restoring Starlink and Starshield satellite internet services, which are crucial for Ukraine’s frontline logistics and defense against Russian drone attacks. In a video address, Zelensky emphasized the significance of these services returning to their previous operating speeds and acknowledged the efforts of US lawmakers, officials, media representatives, and the administration in resolving the issue.
However, Zelensky reiterated the urgent need for the delivery of promised air defense missiles, particularly ammunition for Patriot systems, to protect Ukrainian cities and infrastructure from ongoing Russian ballistic missile assaults. He noted that despite previous political commitments, Ukraine is still awaiting military shipments from the United States and European partners.
Additionally, the Ukrainian president expressed hope for a humanitarian operation in Oleshky, a town in the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine’s Kherson region. The proposed initiative, which follows US-mediated efforts, aims to establish a local ceasefire that would allow food and medical supplies to reach civilians and enable people to leave the conflict zone. Zelensky highlighted that the situation remains challenging due to mined roads in the area.
Under the proposed arrangement, a safe corridor is to be created through mine-clearing efforts. Zelensky stated that Ukraine is prepared to cooperate and is hopeful that US mediation will facilitate the success of this humanitarian mission.
